Myofacial Therapy
What is Fascia?
The Fascia is a fabulous network of soft connective tissue that supports and protects the structures of the body. Fascia covers every muscle group, lines body cavities, and wraps the body just under the skin, somewhat like a mummy. It holds together and connects our body’s tissues. Therefore, it has to be very strong.
When the Fascia becomes damaged or restricted due to psychogenic disease, overuse, injury, infections, or inactivity, it can become twisted, cramped, contracted and rigid rather than breaking. The effects ripple throughout the body, pulling the body’s structure out of alignment, restricting movement, entrapping nerves, and contributing to pain and dysfunction. This is why we may have pain in our knee that may have nothing to do with a knee injury but everything to do with an injury to our lower back.
Myofacial Therapy uses special techniques that are designed to stretch and release the fascia or connective tissue. Releasing the fascia with pressure and stretching techniques can restore proper balance, alignment and function. It includes skin rolling, facial teasing, and other non-invasive techniques.
Whole Body Myofascial Therapy
A form of bodywork using long stretching strokes that seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia/connective tissue.
Anatomy Trains® Myofascial Therapy
Anatomy Trains® Myofascial Meridians gives you a new understanding of whole-body patterning in posture and function – the interplay of movement and stability. Understanding the ‘Superficial Back Line’ as a whole gives insights into hamstring problems that you cannot get from considering the hamstrings alone. The ‘Spiral Line’ shows how to resolve rotational compensations in a way that no analysis of any single muscle can give.
